Plans in for £6m expansion of Rochdale’s Kingsway Business Park
Building firm Wilson Bowden is looking to deliver the next development phase at Kingsway Business Park in Rochdale.
The Leicestershire-headquartered company submitted an application on behalf of the Kingsway Partnership for 11 industrial units ranging from 3,000 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft.
The Kingsway Partnership is a joint venture between Wilson Bowden, Rochdale Development Agency, Rochdale Borough Council and the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency.
Work on the £6m scheme, designed by DLA Architects, will get underway by Spring 2018, subject to planning.
The Kingsway Partnership will aim to have the new space available to rent from early 2019.
Damian Cooke, operations director at Rochdale Development Agency, said: “Kingsway Business Park has already attracted big brand names such as JD Sports, which has recently extended its operations here by a further 630,000 sq ft.
“However, an equal priority for the partnership is to address the requirements from local and regional occupiers.”
He continued: “Our in-house teams carried out extensive research and after speaking to both local and national agents we realised that there was a gap in the market for units under 20,000 sq ft.
“We are confident that these units will generate a great deal of interest and in turn, further boost the local and region’s economy.”
Kingsway Business Park currently comprises 420 acres of mixed-use land and has its own Metrolink stop.
Businesses already based at the development include supermarket giant Asda, lab services provider Source Bioscience and curtain company Cleland McIver Lifestyle.
