Man City photographer creates selfie app for 21st-century globetrotters

Sports photographer Sharon Latham has collaborated with a Premier League footballer and mobile tech firm on a new app designed to help users snap the perfect selfie.

Sharon teamed up with England goalkeeper Joe Hart and Manchester-based Apadmi to develop Selfie Guide, a tool geared towards travellers, holidaymakers and others looking to take the perfect portrait at some of the world’s most popular selfie spots.

Hailing from Lancashire, Sharon has worked as a professional photographer for more than 20 years. In that time she has travelled the globe to take official photos of Manchester City FC and music industry giants such as Noel Gallagher, The Stone Roses, Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Muse and Bruce Springsteen.

Sharon got the idea for the app after noticing an abundance of poorly taken selfies on social media.

The tool offers directions on reaching the perfect selfie location and also provides filters and positioning lines that help users construct the image correctly.

With no prior mobile technology experience, Sharon tasked Apadmi with designing and building the app. She spent six months travelling 22 locations around the world and feeding details of her experiences back to Apadmi, which turned each picture, coordinate and location into 22 guides.

The firm worked closely with Sharon and Joe Hart throughout the development process.

Sharon said: “When I came up with the idea for Selfie Guide, I wanted to help people create great imagery. It’s taken a few months to perfect, but I couldn’t be happier with the result.

“The team at Apadmi helped me to realise this idea to the fullest potential, and they added the fun features and design elements that make this app a unique, useful, engaging experience for everyone who uses it.”

Apadmi CEO Nick Black commented: “We’ve been building apps and working with mobile solutions for years, so we’re used to people coming to us with just an idea and bags of enthusiasm wanting to build something great.

“We’ve loved watching this app unfold into the useful tool it now is for budding photographers, and we’re excited to watch it grow.”

Selfie Guide is available on iOS and Android.
