Councillors welcome £10m investment in road near Liverpool Shopping Park

Local ward councillors in Liverpool have welcomed a multi-million pound investment in one of the routes connecting to the city’s new £100m retail development.

Developer The Derwent Group, the firm behind Liverpool Shopping Park, ploughed £10m into improving road infrastructure as part of the area’s regeneration.

Milton Road now includes traffic controls at its junction with Edge Lane and has been extended into a four-lane carriageway, linking with nearby Binns Road, Crawford Way and Pighue Lane.

Liverpool Shopping Park general manager Russell Hall said: “We’ve carried out a lot of work on Milton Road to improve the flow of traffic in the immediate area and to ease congestion on Edge Lane.

“Milton Road still gives people access to Dryden Road and the technology park, but now it also provides an additional route into Liverpool Shopping Park and an important link to Binns Road, Crawford Way and Pighue Lane, plus an alternative way to reach Wavertree too.”

He continued: “It has always been our intention to be a good neighbour and we’ve taken our responsibilities seriously. By working closely with Liverpool City Council, our investment in the local road infrastructure should deliver benefits for everyone involved –especially local residents and commuters.”

Childwall councillor Frank Hont commented: “Local residents experienced disruption and traffic problems during the construction of the new Liverpool Shopping Park so it’s great to see that partnership between the developer and City Council has led to this much-needed improvement.”

Old Swan councillor Peter Brennan said of the works: “We have worked tirelessly with the developers, Liverpool City Council’s Highways and Traffic Management department and Mayor Anderson during all phases of the development of Liverpool Shopping Park, to ensure residents’ views and concerns were taken into view, which has led to this new improvement.”

Since reopening on October 20, over 15k cars are estimated to have used it to reach Liverpool Shopping Park.

The development’s first retailers – Smyths Toys, H&M, Boots, Outfit and JD Sports – opened their doors on October 20 and have since been followed by River Island, Subway, Regatta, Chiquito and others.

Further openings are planned in the coming the months, among them M&S Food Hall, TK Maxx and Next.

Liverpool Shopping Park forms part of the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation.
