Tameside-based conveyor manufacturer expands into Bangladesh

North West manufacturer Newland Engineering Company Ltd is expanding into a new overseas market.

The Tameside-based company, which exports conveyors used in the loading and unloading of goods, is looking to gain a foothold in Bangladesh after securing undisclosed funding from Santander Business Banking, with support from the Government’s export credit agency UK Export Finance.

Founded in 1962 by Lynn Kerfoot, today Newland Engineering exports to more than 65 countries.

Among its clients are defence giant BAE Systems, pharmacy chain Boots, retailer Disney Store, parcel delivery firm Parcelforce and Royal Mail.

Newland Engineering has also provided conveyors for the UK Border Force, The US Air Force and the US Navy among its client base.

Using the funding from Santander and support from UK Export Finance, the firm will purchase the materials required to fulfil a contract for 14 new conveying machines for a mill in Bangladesh.

Newland Engineering managing director Lynn Kerfoot MBE, who owns 50% of the business, said: “We have worked hard to help customers become more efficient and reduce costs due to our dedication to continuously improving our products and services.

“The funding from Santander has allowed us to branch into a new export market, a key focus for us as a business. We look forward to working with our customers in Bangladesh and around the world as our business continues to grow.”
