Facebook to create 800 more jobs in London
Facebook is to open a new office in London today that will create 800 new jobs.
A decade ago, the huge business opened its first ever office in the capital. It has stated it expects its British workforce to reach around 2,300 by the end of 2018.
More than half of the jobs available will be in engineering. The announcement initially came last year, not long after Google also revealed it was to build a new office in London, too.
Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, commented: “It’s a sign of confidence that innovative companies like Facebook invest here” while London’s mayor Sadiq Khan said the city is “at the forefront of global innovation”.
Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the seven-storey office space will comprise of 23,000 sq m.
Nicola Mendelsohn, Facebook’s vice president for Europe, Asia and the Middle East, concluded: “The UK’s flourishing entrepreneurial ecosystem and international reputation for engineering excellence makes it one of the best places in the world to build a tech company.
“This country has been a huge part of Facebook’s story over the past decade, and I look forward to continuing our work to achieve our mission of bringing the world closer together.”
