Manchester's iconic Yang Sing appoints new business development manager

Manchester’s Yang Sing restaurant has appointed Anakin Ma as Business Development Manager.

Located in the heart of Manchester’s Chinatown, restaurant owners the Yeung family, are celebrating 40 years in business, and are now developing their established team with this new appointment.

In his new role, Anakin will be identifying new revenue generation opportunities, contacting and building new partnerships, and growing revenue and sales for the restaurant.  This is his first role in the Manchester region, having previously worked as a Business Development Manager at private members club, Kiangsu Chekiang and Shanghai Residents (HK) Association Restaurant, based in Hong Kong.

Speaking about his relocation to Manchester, Anakin Ma said: “I am new to the Manchester scene; however there has been some crossover between my new and old job. Many old clients from Hong Kong have been to visit Manchester, which really shows how much the town is on the map, and how Yang Sing is of interest to international visitors.”

Ma highlighted how he hopes to take advantage of Yang Sing’s international attraction, adding: “There is a growing appetite for independent travel in Asia and it is a great opportunity for local businesses to build on this and establish strong working partnerships and connections.

“With the weaker pound sterling at the moment it also means that customers, including international businesses and students, who may not have considered the UK and Manchester as options are now doing so.”

“Yang Sing is an institution” Ma said, speaking fondly of his new employer “in Hong Kong and many global cities, change is so fast paced, business and particularly restaurants come and go- it is not often that you come across such a successful and well managed restaurant.

“The Yang Sing employs a great team of people and I have the privilege of being part of an old business that is looking at new ways of doing things. I also love Chinese food, so look forward to working my way through the delicious menu created by Harry and his team!”

The Executive Chef at Yang Sing, 63 year old Harry Yeung MBE, began his culinary apprenticeship in the kitchens of Hong Kong, aged 13, under the watchful eye of his father.

He has become one of the most celebrated Chinese chefs in the UK, serving exquisite dim sum and Cantonese cuisine for a contemporary audience, whilst keeping an eye on honouring the traditions and techniques of the old masters.

Bonnie Yeung from Yang Sing commented: “We’re so excited to have Anakin join the team here at Yang Sing. What began as a small family affair in 1977 has grown to become synonymous with the cultural and culinary landscape of the city of Manchester.

“It will be great to see how we can continue to develop the restaurant in years to come, developing relationships with businesses in Manchester, the UK, and further afield to Hong Kong.”

Yang Sing is open daily from midday and located at 34 Princess Street, Manchester M1 4JY.

It is suitable for both a quick dim sum lunch with family and friends or for entertaining guests with a lavish banquet in the private dining and events rooms.
