P C Henderson Assist in Bringing Original Tangent Product Back to Life

North East manufacturer, P C Henderson has seen an increase in the number of enquiries from customers looking to restore original designs back to their former glory. From humble beginnings, P C Henderson was founded in 1921 from a small warehouse in Essex and today exports to over 70 countries worldwide and is renowned as a world leader in the design and manufacture of sliding and folding door hardware.

Combining British design with state of the art manufacturing facilities, P C Henderson’s products are designed, manufactured and tested to withstand the test of time and often outlive the lifetime of the original building.

Adam Tatters, a Sales Engineer at P C Henderson received a call from Paul Whitcomb who had recently purchased an original set of P C Henderson’s Tangent Round the Corner hardware from eBay for his garage renovation project.

Adam was complimented by Paul for the high level of customer service he delivered, he comments: “Paul contacted us as he was missing the channel that runs in the floor to complete his system, we were able to supply him with the correct product and a few extras to help him install the system. When Paul sent the images of his finished project through it was amazing to see the condition of the hardware, it was like new! It’s amazing to think a product that was potentially manufactured in 1923 has been restored and re-fitted in a modern environment.”

Tangent Round the Corner was one of P C Henderson’s original products, manufactured in 1923 and a flagship product for the company in the 1920’s. In order to accommodate the steady rise in demand for sliding door hardware the company purchased its own premises in Barking, Essex and it was named ‘Tangent Works’ in light of the success of the Tangent range and to this day, the road in which the factory once stood is still named ‘Tangent Link’.

Paul is thrilled with the end result, he comments: “I did ask the sellers of the doors as to the age of the kit and they were kind enough to check their house deeds and found planning permission for the garage in 1968. Given the specific size of the doors it’s unlikely that they would be a later addition and appear to be the original fitted kit. So the kit starts a second lease of life and I’m confident that this tour of duty will certainly outlast me! The hardware is well designed a fantastic example of straightforward British engineering.”

P C Henderson’s products are routinely tested to over 100,000 cycles and modified to take advantage of the latest technology and materials to ensure they are fit for purpose and will last the lifespan of the building.

Andrew Royle, Sales and Marketing Director at P C Henderson is happy to see the companies original products brought back to life:

“The fact that we are seeing an increase in the number of enquiries regarding the restoration of our older products cements the company’s reputation as a leader in the design and manufacture of sliding and folding door hardware, our products are built to last.”
