Christmas all wrapped up at intu Metrocentre

Gorgeous gifts are achievable for all as the Marie Curie gift wrapping kiosk returns to intu Metrocentre for its 17th year.

Volunteers from Marie Curie will be on hand to wrap even the most tricky of presents in return for a donation to the charity - the perfect way for shoppers to tick another item off their festive to-do list!

The gift wrapping kiosk will be located in Upper Town Square, near Oasis, from Sunday 10 December to Saturday 23 December – which means that perfectly wrapped pressies are still accessible even for last minute Christmas shoppers! Presents can be handed over at the kiosk, where visitors can choose from a variety of festive wrapping paper.

All monies raised will help to support Marie Curie services in the north east which includes the wonderful team of dedicated nurses who work across the region offering people end of life care in their own homes.

The Marie Curie gift wrapping service has become an eagerly anticipated festive fundraising feature at intu Metrocentre with many families returning to take advantage of the kiosk year after year. Since 2000, the wrapping station has generated more than £59,000 in donations from satisfied shoppers, which translates to over 2,950 hours of nursing care to those who need it most.

Shoppers’ kind donations have also helped to support the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle which offers a wide variety of services to patients with life limiting illnesses and their families, including in-patient care, day therapy sessions, nursing care, physiotherapy, complementary therapies and specialist emotional support.

Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome back Marie Curie’s charity gift wrapping service to intu Metrocentre - an initiative which raises vital funds every year to support the incredible work that the charity carries out in the region.

“The volunteers look forward to welcoming thousands of intu Metrocentre shoppers in the run up to the festive season - we’re encouraging everyone take advantage of the service and to dig deep to support a very worthy cause.”

Becky Fishwick, Gateshead Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie, added:

“Our Christmas Wrap at intu Metrocentre is one of our favourite fundraising events and we are delighted to be back for the 17th year. Staff are extremely supportive, customers are wonderfully generous and our volunteers have a great experience.”
