Marco Pierre White opens fish restaurant on Liverpool’s waterfront
Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has opened a new restaurant in Liverpool.
Over 150 guests, including Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and Merseyside DJ Pete Price, attended the launch of Wheeler’s of St James’s at the Pullman Hotel.
Visitors dined from a menu that included Oysters Rockefeller – three oysters baked in their shells and topped with greens and parmesan – along with 35-day aged Buccleuch steak and other Marco Pierre White dishes.
The centrepiece of the party was an ice sculpture of a bottle pouring Wheeler’s Bloody Mary cocktail, served with oysters, into a chalice. Music was provided by an acoustic duo, saxophonist and DJ.
Established in 1856, Wheeler’s of St James’s is today considered the world’s oldest fish restaurant brand.
Commenting on the launch, Marco said: “I’m thrilled to open a Wheeler’s of St James’s restaurant in Liverpool, which is a fine city and one of the most exciting in the world.
“It is important that the cuisine in such a city is of a high standard of excellence and that’s why we chose Liverpool as the location for the world’s oldest and most iconic fish restaurant.”
He added: “I will be visiting the restaurant myself in the near future and wish everybody who visits a wonderful experience dining on some of the best dishes I have created.”
Pullman general manager Neil Brailsford commented: “The launch party was fantastic and we are thrilled to have officially launched Wheeler’s of St James’s at Pullman Liverpool.
“The restaurant has been open since 19th November and is already proving popular with guests and visitors to the city coming to the Pullman to dine at Wheeler’s.”
He continued: “We’re looking forward to seeing more people enjoy Marco’s famous recipes.”
