Lancshire sings Christmas at Buckshaw Retirement Village

An award-winning care home in Chorley has teamed up with Midge Hall Church to take part in a carol service with a difference.

Buckshaw Retirement Village, which is part of the not for profit Hica group, took part in Lancashire Sings Christmas, a carol service which brings communities together to celebrate the festive season. Thousands of listeners across the county tuned in to the concert which was broadcast on BBC radio Lancashire.

Residents across all of Buckshaw’s facilities came together with Midge Hall Church to sing Christmas carols and get in to the festive spirit.

The event was part of is part of a wider effort to promote independence and the physical and mental wellbeing of the residents.

Chris Durnan, market square coordinator for Buckshaw said: “Lancashire Sings Christmas is a fantastic event, which really promotes community spirit and coming together to celebrate a special time of year. It was a great opportunity for Buckshaw residents to take part in the concert. “Residents across all of Buckshaw’s communities in with the festivities and sing along to some of their favourite carols, and they really enjoyed the night.”

Penni Brown, chief executive of the Hica group said: “The Lancashire Sings Christmas event is always largely celebrated in the community. We are pleased that Buckshaw was given the opportunity to take part.

“The Hica Group is committed to providing an outstanding level of care, and promoting the importance of the physical and mental wellbeing of our residents. Events such as the concert are a great way for the residents to have fun, but also for us to promote the importance of their physical and mental wellbeing.”

The event, which has been running since 2010 is organised by Churches Together in Lancashire, in partnership with BBC radio Lancashire.

Buckshaw is part of The Hica Group, a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 17 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a care at home service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
