4DX cinema comes to Newcastle city centre following £5.5m investment
A new 16-screen, 4DX cinema will today (December 20) launch at Newcastle leisure destination The Gate, following a £5.5m investment from Cineworld.
The cinema operator is planning to transform the 2,635 seat cinema to create a ‘next generation entertainment space’ in the city centre.
Features of the new offering are set to include high-tech motion seats, and wind, rain, fog and lightning effects, as well as scents accompanying film screenings. This will be the brand’s fifteenth 4DX cinema and the first in the North East.
Katherine Armstead, Senior Asset Manager for The Gate, at The Crown Estate said: “Bringing Cineworld 4DX to Newcastle in time for Christmas tops off a fantastic year for The Gate.
“Newcastle is a vibrant city, with an ever-changing social scene, and I am delighted that we have kept pace with this change.
“The new brands have added breadth to our leisure and entertainment line-up, complementing the broader offer within the city centre and ensuring we continue to attract significant footfall.”
John Hodgson, Cineworld Newcastle General Manager, said: “We’re really excited to introduce cinema goers to our new 4DX screen on the 20th December.
“There’s nothing like it and it can only be experienced in the UK at Cineworld. We’re opening the screen with a fantastic line-up of movies such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which have been perfectly adapted to suit 4DX.”
Mr Hodgson added: “We cannot wait to see customers’ reactions when they try out the completely immersive experience!”
