Barnsley business to create 50 jobs in St Helens with 10,000 sq ft superstore

Surplus food and household product redistributor Company Shop is creating jobs with a new superstore in the North West.

The Barnsley-based company will recruit as many as 50 people at its new site in St Helens, developed with a £900k finance package from Lloyds Bank.

The 10,000 sq ft store, located on Lancots Lane Industrial Estate in Sutton Fold, will be Company Shop’s fifth in the UK.

Like the firm’s other sites, the St Helens store will operate on a membership basis, with eligible customers including those in the food manufacturing industry and emergency services or NHS workers.

Headquartered in Tankersley, South Yorkshire, Company Shop was founded over 40 years ago and today helps retailers, manufacturers and other brands stop more than 50m items of food and household products going to waste annually.

Company Shop’s founder and chairman, John Marren, said: “The opening of our new Company Shop store in St Helens is a key part of our plans to further expand our successful model in the Liverpool City Region and beyond. Lloyds Bank has been an invaluable partner in helping us to get to this point.

“We have big ambitions to continue to expand on a national scale and stop even more good food from going to waste.”

Lloyds Bank relationship director Mark Butterworth commented: “Company Shop plays an indispensable role in reducing the amount of waste in Britain’s food and household goods supply network.

“Supporting businesses like this is central to Lloyds Bank’s mission of helping Britain prosper.”

He added: “The financial support will help Company Shop to complete the next step in its growth across the North West, and increase the number of markets it can access and service across the region.”

Company Shop’s St Helens store will open in January 2018.
