Cumbrian business to create England’s highest and longest zip wire
Leisure operator Treetop Trek Ltd has unveiled plans to create the highest and longest zip wire in England.
The Cumbrian business, which expanded into Manchester with two attractions at Heaton Park earlier this year, is looking to enhance its Northern portfolio with a new zip line experience in the Lake District.
The attraction would see thrillseekers whizzing at high speeds over Thirlmere, a reservoir in the Allerdale area.
The line would be complemented by an 18km round-lake cycle way.
Mike Turner, managing director of Treetop Trek Ltd, said: “It’s our aim to make the North West the place to come to for family friendly adventure.
“We’ve been overwhelmed at the response to our Treetop outdoor attractions in Manchester and are really excited about Thirlmere.”
He added: “Consultation for our planning application for our Thirlmere activity hub ends on the 2nd of January, so if you’re in support of it, we urge you to voice this by sending an email to the Lake District National Park Planning Authority.”
Sheona Southern, MD of regional tourist board Marketing Manchester, commented: “Both Treetop Trek and Treetop Nets in Manchester’s Heaton Park have proven incredibly popular, attracting families from far and wide for a fun-filled day out.
“We want the North West to continue its trajectory of becoming one of the most entertaining places in Europe to visit, and so we look forward to TreetopTrek Ltd’s latest installment in the Lake District.”
Treetop Trek Ltd attracts more than 120k visitors annually to its three sites in the Lake District, Manchester and North Yorkshire.
