Much loved restaurant moves into its new home in Otley

After 15 years in business, the team behind the highly successful, family-owned restaurant, Buon Apps has taken the plunge and purchased a new home in Otley. The newly named Buon Apps River Lounge and Italian Restaurant on the bank of the River Wharfe is now open to the public, and forms part of David Wilson Homes’ Garnett Wharfe development. The two-story restaurant features a bar, an outdoor ‘Wharfe Garden’ terrace and boasts stunning views of the river and surrounding area, seating up to 100 diners for lunch, dinner or drinks, with space for another 40 al fresco diners in the outside terrace area, weather permitting.

To celebrate the new location, the restaurant has added a Garnett’s Fish Grill, serving chargrilled catch of the day including salmon fillet, sea bass and king prawns, to the menu. The restaurant has also created a brand new cocktail aptly named Wharfe Breeze, which combines gin, Chambord, brown sugar, fresh lime and raspberries, soda water, lemonade and fruit bitters muddled over ice to create a delicious treat.

Prior to the move, co-owners and husband and wife team, Alessandro Proietti and Elena Sofia Tocca had dreamed of expanding out of their previous premises in the Wharfebank Business Centre, and into a similar property of their own.

Commenting on the new venture, Elena Sofia said: “We had been interested in the property since finding out about the plans for a potential restaurant space on site, due to its grandeur and stunning location. We hope that having the restaurant conveniently close by will be the cherry on top of the cake for Garnett Wharfe residents and we look forward to welcoming both them and the public from Otley and beyond to our new premises.”

David Coe, Land Director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West commented, “This is the first David Wilson Homes development in the region to feature a restaurant on site, not to mention such a well known and well loved business like Buon Apps. The former Hartley House premises was the perfect setting for a restaurant and we’re pleased to have been able to work alongside both Elena and Alessandro to see it restored and given a new lease of life for the public to enjoy.”

Set on the historic site of the Garnett paper mill, Garnett Wharfe is a collection of luxury one, two and four bedroom homes available to purchase from £164,995. The site has a hydroelectric facility, which generates electricity from the river weir, making the development carbon neutral on an offset basis. An otter holt, bat chamber and a fish pass have also been built to support local wildlife.
