P C Henderson Lends a Helping Hand to The Peoples Kitchen

North East sliding and folding door manufacturer, P C Henderson has donated a number of turkeys to Newcastle based charity, The Peoples Kitchen to help feed the homeless and less fortunate in the North East over the festive period.

Established in 1985, The People’s Kitchen has been supporting the homeless and disadvantaged in the Newcastle area with warm clothes, food and support.

Trevor Cossins, Managing Director at P C Henderson was happy to help, he comments:

“Christmas is a time we traditionally give gifts but it is also a time to reflect, be thankful for what we have and support those who are less fortunate or need a helping hand. This year every employee at P C Henderson received a turkey as a gift to help them celebrate the special holiday with their families and friends.

We also thought it was equally as important to buy some extra turkeys to help The Peoples Kitchen provide a warm meal and a safe environment on Christmas Day to those in need around the North East.“

Spurred on by an article about the death of a homeless man, founder Alison Kay (then in her 70s) decided to set up an organisation to support those in need. Within a year, Alison had 40 helpers, and they set up the first People’s Kitchen next to the railway arches by Dean Street.

Alison Kay died in 2001, aged 91, but inspired by her example, The People’s Kitchen remains true to her principles; providing ‘friendship and food’ to anyone who needs support.tr
