Game development company Sumo opens new studio in Newcastle
Sumo Group has announced that its partner Sumo Digital Limited has taken on the Newcastle studio of CCP Games through an asset purchase agreement for a nominal cash consideration.
This has been an opportunity to open a new studio to which the group referred in its admission document on December 15, 2017.
At the studio, 34 staff including all game developers, became employees yesterday (January 1) of Sumo Digital, which will take an assignment of the lease for the property where the studio is situated.
Carl Cavers, CEO of Sumo Group, said: “We are delighted that such a talented group of individuals has joined Sumo Digital, further enhancing the group’s skills and depth of expertise.
“Our experience of opening the Nottingham Studio in 2016 shows us that expansion into a new location opens the door to a whole new pool of talent, a crucial element in our growth plans.”
Cavers went on to say that both CCP Games and Sumo Digital were keen to keep the Newcastle team together and have been pleased to complete this transfer at the start of the group’s financial year.
