114 new jobs to be created as plans approved for transformation of Malsis Hall in Glusburn
Malsis Hall in Glusburn, a village situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, is set to be converted into a specialist care facility and 67 homes.
The announcement follows on from by Craven District Council’s planning committee approving the plans.
The former prep school and Grade-II listed building is set to be developed by Seddon Developments and the Health and Social Care Partnerships.
The proposal includes the full restoration and extension of Malsis Hall and the gate lodge, a care and rehabilitation facility for people who have suffered psychological trauma, seven new community sports pitches, a play area and 67 homes, which includes 11 earmarked for affordable housing.
The sports pitches will be home to local teams Sutton Juniors and Cross Hills Cosmos, and the care home will be managed by Malsis Care.
Around 114 jobs will be created as a result of the development.
Malsis School was founded in 1920 and is set in countryside with a lake, rugby pitches and a nine-hole golf course.
The developers were supported throughout the planning process by Skipton-based Rural Solutions.
James Ellis, associate director at Rural Solutions, said: “It is pleasing that the long-term future for this listed building has been secured.
“The unanimous approval of the Planning Committee reflected the incredible amount of work put into these proposals by all concerned.
“The approval reflects the economic, social and environmental benefits the development will bring to this Yorkshire village and the surrounding area, which weighed heavily in its favour.”
A masterplan for Malsis Hall was created, the local community consulted on the proposal and the development was allocated as part of Craven District Council’s Local Plan.
Planning consent was originally agreed in 2014 for around 45 new homes which the school had hoped would secure its future. However, the school went into administration in December 2014, before the proposal got underway. The building stood empty for a year before it was purchased by the developers in 2016.
Construction work is expected to get underway in 2018.
