North East Talent Take on New Roles at Desco

National built environment engineering consultancy Desco, which has its headquarters in the North-East, has announced a raft of staff promotions to support its continued growth.

Desco, which specialises in mechanical and electrical building services design and is part of the Pell Frischmann engineering group, has introduced a new group-led strategic management model and reinforced its structure, by creating a new Operations Director role and welcoming two new directors onto its management board. In addition, it is promoting a number of engineering staff into more senior positions.

New Operations Director Kevin Hall has been with Desco for 17 years and has worked his way up through engineering, associate and director roles within the business in the UK and Middle East. His newly created position will see him take responsibility for all aspects of the company’s operations, service delivery and performance across its five UK offices, and wider international responsibilities.

Former Managing Director, Paul Marshall, is moving into another new role – M&E Sector Director. Working alongside Kevin at Desco, and colleagues within the wider group Paul will take responsibility for the strategic direction and development of new markets and integration with the other group companies.

New directors being welcomed onto the board, Paul Baker and David Starbuck, were both formerly technical directors within the business. They will take on additional strategic and management responsibilities in their new positions.

Long-serving electrical engineers Dean Keith and Craig Muncaster have both been promoted into Principal Engineer positions. Their new roles will give them greater responsibilities in project management.

In the last twelve months the Desco brand has gone from strength to strength having secured a range of new project appointments in new sectors, as well as opening a fifth UK office. The company’s Manchester branch is the latest addition, adding to its established offices at Doxford International Business Park in Sunderland, Leeds, Croydon and London. The practice’s UK-wide project portfolio has expanded with its recent appointments including the design of the mechanical and electrical building systems for a series of new proton beam cancer treatments centres, the redevelopment of a flagship shopping centre in Nottingham, a multi-storey new private residential scheme in Leeds city centre and the first phase of the mammoth £1bn Winstanley and York Road project involving the regeneration of two inner-city London estates.

Kevin explains, “Desco has always placed the greatest importance on training and developing its staff. This latest series of promotions – all from within our own business, demonstrates our commitment to developing and rewarding our ‘home-grown’ talent. The strengthened structure will provide a solid platform for our future plans whilst building upon our existing technical capabilities.

He continues, “On behalf of all of the team at Desco I would like to congratulate my colleagues on their recent promotions. Personally, I am delighted to be part of Desco’s continuing success story and am really looking forward to the challenges of my new role. I am confident that our reorganised structure will support our further growth and provide even more exciting staff development opportunities.”

The programme of promotions sees the staff take up their new positions this month.
