Wigan leisure centre’s £3.2m facelift nears completion
The multi-million pound transformation of Ashton Leisure Centre in Wigan is nearing completion.
As part of the £3.2m project, the building is expanding to accommodate a new first-floor 4,230 sq ft gym complete with 80 workout stations.
The equipment is from Technogym, which means users will be able to record and check their progress through fitness-tracking technology MyWellness Cloud.
Inside Ashton Leisure Centre, users will have access to a new group exercise studio, indoor cycling studio, sauna and steam room along with revamped changing space.
Outside the facility, the project has created a new synthetic pitch and a multi-use games area available for hire.
Social enterprise Inspiring healthy lifestyles manages the site for Wigan Council.
Peter Burt, managing director at Inspiring healthy lifestyles, said: “This is a stylish design but it doesn’t just look good.
“We have listened to our customers and will be giving them more of what they want. More classes and group exercise classes based around their needs and at times that suit them.”
He continued: “Our aim is to inspire everyone to achieve a healthier, happier life. Ashton Leisure Centre is part of a bigger network of Inspiring healthy lifestyles services and activities. This means more opportunities to reach your fitness, health and wellbeing goals, whatever your ability or interests.”
The new-look leisure centre is due to open its doors in early May.
