Asbestos training company backs radio campaign to get people into work

THE UK’s leading provider of asbestos training is backing a campaign to get more Wearsiders back into the workplace.

Asbestos Specialist Ltd, known as UKasl, is supporting popular radio station Sun FM’s annual drive to get more Sunderland people into jobs.

Now in its fifth year, the ‘A Million Pounds Worth of Work for Wearside’ campaign comes at a time of year when many people often consider a change of career.

More than £2,500,000 worth of jobs was generated within the first few weeks of 2018 and campaign organisers are confident they can smash their previous figures for the fifth year running.

Les Cooper, owner and Managing Director of UKasl, said: “We recognise the importance of getting more Wearsiders back into work and wanted to do something practical to help them do so. It’s not just about boosting the local economy, it’s about individuals helping provide for themselves and their families.

“Unemployment is a problem across the UK, but especially here in the north east and Sunderland. Sun FM’s annual campaign has helped transform the lives of hundreds of Wearsiders by promoting job opportunities and UKasl is proud to play a part in that transformation.”

Hebburn-based UK Asbestos Specialist Ltd, known as UKasl, was set up in 2003 and has trained more than half a million workers in the dangers of asbestos in the last seven years alone.

Stephen McCabe, News Editor at Sun FM, said: “Employment in the North East stands at 72.2%, in which 34,000 people managed to find work in the past year. However, 5.2% of the population in the North East are still out of work, which ‘A Million Pounds Worth of Work for Wearside’ is working to combat and help people on Wearside to find a new career.”

Julian Carter, managing Director of Sun FM, said: “If you want to get that dream job, or earn more money or both- we can help you. Thanks to UK ASL for supporting this incredible campaign which in the last four years has helped aggregate over £10m worth of work.

Sun FM encourages all employers to upload any vacancies they may have to the Sun FM jobs site, completely free of charge and most jobs get read out on air for free too.
