Blast off on an intergalactic adventure this half term!

Calling all aspiring astronauts - intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square have a host of free intergalactic activities planned this half term.

From 12 to 16 February at intu Metrocentre and 14 and 15 February at intu Eldon Square, visitors can enjoy a range of free space-themed fun for all the family including an exciting mobile planetarium and immersive virtual reality headsets.

The planetarium will offer shoppers a virtual tour of the night sky, helping to unlock the breath-taking world of astronomy in a fully digital, 360° multi-media theatre experience.

Intrepid explorers will get the chance to land on the surface of the moon with the Apollo astronauts, investigate distant planets, search for life in alien oceans plus travel to the outer regions of the solar system and beyond in each incredible planetarium session.

Virtual reality headsets will take visitors on a fascinating journey through the universe, where they will experience an astronauts-eye view of outer space.

At intu Eldon Square free space-themed colouring in will be taking place in St Andrew’s Way, near Debenhams and there’ll even be astronaut costumes that mini-moonwalkers can try on for size!

The fun continues over at intu Metrocentre where pint-sized cosmonauts can enjoy free arts and crafts activities in Exhibition Square, near Primark, including the opportunity to colour their own rocket gliders, indulge in some inter-planetary solar system scratch art and make astronaut and alien masks and finger puppets.

They can even don a spacesuit and snap a selfie with a life-sized cut out of British astronaut Tim Peake.

Gavin Prior, regional centre director of intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square, said:

“More than 70 per cent of our visitors have young children so we’ll be helping them make the most of half term with an array of intergalactic adventures for all the family.

“From exploring the constellations to taking that first small step on a far-away planet, we’re sure our fun and informative activities will delight shoppers of all ages and help make sure the school holidays are out of this world!”
