Angel investment network set to launch in York

Angelgroups, a connected network of angel investors across the North of England, is set to launch a group in York on Thursday, 15th February.

The launch will be in association with professional services firm Langleys Solicitors and with the support of Make it York.

Martin Avison, founder of Angelgroups, said: “I am delighted to bring such opportunities to the region and welcome the support of our associates.

“We are a peer network of high net worth and sophisticated investors who provide much more than simply investment. Our angel investors also provide mentoring and support, realising significant benefits to a business.”

Avison also runs groups in Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Grimsby and has plans to grow the network across England.

The initiative aligns to the Government’s Industrial Strategy in which the British Business Bank is looking to support developing business angels outside of London.

Dave Clarkson, business development director at Langleys Solicitors, said: “This is a great opportunity for businesses in North Yorkshire who have the potential for fast growth to secure funding and take advantage of the expertise of investors to help them deliver their growth plans.”

Avison is now looking for more potential angels and businesses that are looking for investment and support.

Avison added: “We run regular pitching sessions for the businesses to get in front of active angels as well as an online platform for our members to review opportunities. It is more than a simple pitching session though, it’s about running educational sessions for individuals who would like to know more about being an angel.

“We cover topics such as shareholder agreements, minority shareholder rights, the latest research from the UK Business Angel Association, how to be a lead angel and SEIS and EIS Tax reliefs.”

Simon Middleton, business growth manager for Make It York, commented: “Supporting and encouraging high growth businesses is at the heart of the city’s economic strategy and this initiative will be another valuable addition to the help that is available to companies in York.”
