The shopping centre received a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice for its chemical cleaning project, which saw the team reduce its chemical cleaning usage.

In addition, the team’s improvements to reduce the quantity of chemicals used across the centre, has helped to benefit staff welfare, eliminating the risks associated with contact from cleaning chemicals.

Fran Woffinden, operations manager at The Telford Centre, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win a Green Apple Award, it’s a real honour for the centre.

“This award recognises the innovative ideas that went into our chemical reduction project and is a testament to our staff who have implements this scheme across the centre as well as our commitment to environment sustainability.

“As part of this scheme we were able to generate our own cleaning and disinfection solutions on site, which has helped reduce plastic waste.

“The centre is committed to continually looking for new ways in which we can achieve best environment practice, and improve our carbon footprint year after year in order to benefit the local community.”

The Green Apple Environment Awards, which saw an awards ceremony take place at the House of Commons, was established in 1994, to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.
