York architect shortlisted for two prestigious healthcare design awards
York-based DWA Architects has been shortlisted for two awards in this years Pinders Healthcare Design Awards, regarded as one of the leading award competitions in the sector.
Fernhill House, located in Worcester and designed for Majesticare, has been shortlisted in the best new care home for the elderly category and Swan Court in Birmingham for Precious Homes has been shortlisted in the best regeneration award.
DWA Architects has already won nine Pinders Awards since 2006 for projects across the country.
Commenting on the shortlisting, David Ward, Managing Director of DWA Architects said: “It’s testament to the hard work and creativity of the team here at DWA that we have been shortlisted for two awards in this prestigious competition. It builds on the strong track record and reputation for quality in the care sector we have built up over the last 30 years.”
The Swan Court project transformed and re-developed an older person’s sheltered housing scheme into a three-tiered residential and supported living accommodation development. The scheme also includes a social enterprise cafe for younger people and adults aged 16-65 years old, which is a central element of the design. It provides support for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs.
In the elderly care home category, Fernhill House is a stunning 66-bed residential home which has been designed to surpass the needs and desires of its residents and to incorporate many thoughtful and innovative features into the way it operates. The home includes a café bar, a private dining room, a cinema room and a hairdresser.
The Pinders Healthcare Design Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property, whilst the Award categories seek to acknowledge the contribution made by home owners, designers and architects to the well being and quality of life for those in their care. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on the 14th March.
