New images released of multi-million pound transformation of The Majestic in Leeds

New CGI images have been released to show how the multi-million pound transformation of The Majestic in Leeds city centre will look from the railway station into the City’s main square, City Square.

With plans for a £500m redevelopment, Leeds Railway Station is at the centre of the city’s economy as a hub for national, regional and local connectivity.

The CGIs show how the historic building will be transformed to provide new office space, along with a close-up view of The Majestic’s external features.

The 66,000 sq ft of office space will be housed behind the original external envelope of the building, which first opened as a 2,400-seat cinema back in 1922. A new three-storey atrium will be created at the entrance to the building from City Square.

Situated over seven levels, The Majestic will also feature terraces on the fourth and fifth floors, overlooking City Square, alongside a new domed circulatory space, re-creating the Palm Court, and a flexible ‘Stage’ space within the lower ground floor.

The images have been released by the building’s owner property investment and development company, Rushbond, as construction work continues.

The scheme has also been showcased by Leeds City Region at MIPIM, the world property conference, in Cannes this week.

Mark Finch, real estate director at Rushbond, said: “The project team has worked hard to ensure that our plans for The Majestic deliver a sensitive restoration of the iconic building, all the while paying homage to its past while looking forward to its future.

“The Majestic will provide a contemporary workplace that meets the requirements that future occupiers are looking for, while bringing the building back to life for the enjoyment of the City and its people.

“These new images further showcase our vision of delivering great spaces in a super-prime destination, with a great scheme that respects the iconic features of this wonderful building and recognises its hugely important relationship to the City’s railway station, which is so central to the City’s growing and vibrant economy.”

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, added: “I am delighted to see further images of The Majestic revealed, showing how investment activity in Leeds continues to grow for the benefit of both businesses and the people of Leeds.

“This development is part of a collective of projects around the City’s Station, and the economic opportunities that the station’s redevelopment presents in readiness for HS2, including the Council’s own reimagining and transformational plans for City Square. I look forward to seeing the development progress over the coming months.

The Majestic, designed by DLA Architecture, provides the opportunity for both a single tenant to occupy the whole building or multiple occupation.
