Experienced BDM Jumps On Board at FSC Oceans
New, privately-owned and London-headquartered freight forwarding business FSC Oceans, which started trading this month (March), has appointed its first Business Development Manager who has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry.
Steve Boyson joins Fulham-based FSC Oceans having worked for a broad spectrum of businesses in the forwarding sector, including international courier and mail organization Skynet, USA airfreight specialist BAX Global, CEVA Logistics and DGF (DHL Global forwarding).
With two decades of experience under his belt, Steve has worked across the high tech, pharma, automotive and retail sectors, as well as oil and gas, and has specialised in account management and sales. He has worked for clients in the USA as well as those operating predominantly in the Far East trade lane and is an expert in providing tailored, adaptable and forward-thinking supply chain advice.
Steve, who hails from Brighton and a family which owned a fashion manufacturing company based in London’s West End, said: “Throughout my career in forwarding, I’ve worked for both large corporate organisations and smaller, family-run businesses, broadening my scope of expertise at each. What really appealed about the position at FSC Oceans is that there is the opportunity for me to make an impact here and bring another layer of expertise to the business.
“As soon as I met the team I knew we’d gelled – most interviews last half an hour but we were chatting for at least 2 hours! I’m particularly excited by the flexibility of our offering at FSC Oceans and how we can adapt to each and every customer’s profile quickly, facilitating each business as an individual and not trying to make the business fit an existing box.
“The flexibility of a smaller team is particularly positive given the potential for change and disruption that may be caused by Brexit. We don’t know what the impact of leaving the EU will be on the forwarding sector just yet, but as a small business we are agile and can respond quickly to changes in the market.”
FSC Oceans is a start-up, based on Fulham High Street, led by Managing Director Shatha Aziz who is heading up the team of logistics experts with more than 100 years’ experience of their industry between them. Her aspiration is for the business to hit the £10m turnover milestone within just a few years.
Moving to the UK from Iraq in 2016, Shatha brought with her 15 years’ experience providing multinational businesses with bespoke logistics solutions. She’d already consulted her network in the UK and decided there was a gap in the market for a new start-up, so set about recruiting her team to launch FSC Oceans.
Commercial Director Alan Hewitt, Operations Manager Steve Tumber, General Manager Salem Haifi and Account Supervisor Soraya Benouda, overseen by Shatha, recently moved into their new offices from where they will create and implement tailored, streamlined logistics solutions that deliver reliability and efficiency into their customers’ supply chains . Commercial Director Alan Hewitt, who has more than 28 years’ experience in international logistics, having previously worked for both Kuehne + Nagel and RH Freight, said: “We’re thrilled to have Steve on board and pleased to see he has hit the ground running, making contact with both customers and agents he’s worked with previously and whom share the same values as us.
“This is a very exciting time for FSC Oceans as we launch our offering to the market. What sets us apart is our culturally diverse make-up and our experience across a broad spectrum of industry sectors, including automotive, FMCG, industrial, oil & gas, high tech, retail, drinks logistics and marine logistics.
“Steve adds another string to our bow and I’m sure is going to make some excellent relationships for us over the coming months. We’re driven to offer a comprehensive, cutting-edge service designed to ensure shipments always arrive on time, safely and securely. Our mantra is simple - professional, affordable service that our customers can rely on – and I know Steve is going to strengthen this offering thanks to his detailed knowledge of our marketplace.”
