Energy employees raise over £1,300 through breast cancer fundraiser

Employees at one of Wearside’s largest employers have raised over £1,300 in a fundraiser for a national breast cancer charity.

Kind-hearted customer service staff at EDF Energy Doxford, recently came together to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, the company’s official charity partner, through a range of fun-filled activities.

Employees got into the charitable spirit by hosting quizzes, cake sales, raffles and a tombola, to raise a total of £1,324.10 to help fund the charity’s life-saving breast cancer research.

The company-wide partnership with Breast Cancer Now began in 2016, and EDF Energy has pledged to raise a total of £450,000 over the course of the three-year partnership.

Kevin Gatens, head of customer service in the North East, said: “I am very proud of the customer service team. They are always enthusiastic and willing to get involved with fundraisers, and always show their support to the company’s charity partners.

All funds raised by the company-wide partnership will help Breast Cancer Now continue to fund vital research to stop women dying of breast cancer.

Lizzie Israeli, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Breast Cancer Now said: “We are thrilled to be working with EDF Energy and are very grateful for the company’s pledge to raise £450,000 for Breast Cancer Now over three years.

“EDF employees have shown great enthusiasm and commitment to the partnership, already raising a fantastic amount of money for Breast Cancer Now’s cutting-edge research, to help put a stop to this devastating disease.

“We would like to thank the staff at EDF Energy Doxford for their dedicated support of Breast Cancer Now at this special Valentine’s Day fundraiser, and for raising vital funds for our research.”

Breast Cancer Now is the largest breast cancer charity in the UK, committed to stopping women dying of breast cancer by 2050.
