Albert Dock Radio launch to ‘create opportunities for young people’
New Albert Dock Radio station to ‘create opportunities for young people’
Liverpool’s Albert Dock has partnered with National Broadcasting School to launch its own radio station.
Albert Dock Radio will offer opportunities in training and apprenticeships for people interested in a career in broadcasting.
Operational from today (March 21), the platform will look to capture and celebrate the sights and sounds of Liverpool’s most visited free attraction.
Content will keep listeners up to date on events from around the Grade I-listed site. The station will be available to stream via the Dock website and various radio apps.
Albert Dock chief exec Sue Grindrod said: “Launching Albert Dock Radio in partnership with National Broadcasting School allows us to do two things, create engaging content for our visitors to enhance their experience, while at the same time we are creating opportunities for local young people to experience a career in media.
“We have a number of strands that will create opportunities for young people through the Albert Dock Charitable Foundation and now Albert Dock Radio.”
She added: “This is an incredible opportunity, and who knows, some of our graduates could end up being broadcast stars of the future.”
Based in Liverpool, National Broadcasting School operates throughout the UK and works with national radio groups to deliver broadcast skills development, school programmes and professional training.
National Broadcasting School chairman Jason Harborow commented: “We are so passionate about developing talent for broadcast, and when we explored partners, Albert Dock was our first call as it has its own community and it will give our students so many rich stories from every corner; from going behind the scenes at Tate Liverpool’s exhibitions, to traditional saddlery skills at Leather Satchel Company, all while creating an archive of the voices of people who live, work and visit the Dock on a daily basis.
“This is a professional radio station with the highest production values, the most amazing technology, and expert broadcast professionals who will share that depth of knowledge with the newest crop of up-and-coming broadcast talent who are trying to get a break into the industry.”
