Deputy Lord Mayor opens Liverpool’s new £1m vault
Liverpool’s first safe deposit vault has officially launched.
Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Christine Banks was on hand to cut the ribbon at the £1m facility alongside co-founders Séamus Fahy and David Walsh.
Liverpool Vaults created 10 jobs upon opening and expects to recruit a further five staff in the coming months.
Guests including Bdaily and other businesses got a behind-the-scenes look inside the vault on Wednesday night (March 21).
Irish firm Merrion Vaults is the company behind the site, which is protected by surveillance technology including seismic shock sensors, round-the-clock monitoring and biometric identification.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Banks said: “I am delighted to officially open Liverpool Vaults, the city’s first safe deposit box facility, especially in such an iconic location as the Royal Liver Building.
“Inward investment is a major contributor to Liverpool’s growth so it is fantastic to see a new business make the city their home, as well as providing job opportunities for local people.”
She added: “Congratulations to Liverpool Vaults on its new, innovative facility in the heart of the city.”
Séamus Fahy commented: “It is great to officially launch Liverpool Vaults and mark our opening with esteemed guests and local businesses.
“The Liverpool City Region is a dynamic region and we saw real potential, and the demand for opening a new safe deposit box facility in the city.”
Co-founder David Walsh said of the opening: “Thank you to the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Christine Banks for joining us and helping us celebrate our official launch in Liverpool.
“This launch is just the beginning of our journey and we are very excited to welcome both companies and individuals who are looking to secure their valuables safely.”
Merrion Vaults is Europe’s biggest independently owned safe deposit business.
Since launching its first facility five years ago in Dublin, the company has expanded its footprint across England and Scotland with vaults in Glasgow and Newcastle.
