NEWCASTLE SALON SHORTLISTED FOR NATIONAL AWARD

NEWCASTLE boutique hair and beauty salon Humphrey and Wilson has been shortlisted in a national hair and beauty award following business advice from accountancy firm Robson Laidler.

Steph Wilson, 33 and Mark Humphrey 31, are co-owners of Humphrey and Wilson on Heaton Road have been shortlisted in the English Hair and Beauty Awards in the Men’s Stylist of the Year category. They will attend a glittering awards ceremony at Manchester’s Mercure Piccadilly Hotel later this month.

In the past two years the salon has successfully followed its ambitious growth strategy having expanded to bigger premises and taken on two new members of staff including a new stylist and beauty therapist. The pair aim to continue success by appointing two more junior stylists by the end of the year and already have feelers out for even bigger premises with beauty rooms.

The salon has also streamlined its systems and processes, following advice from Robson Laidler using Xero software for all billing and account information.

Salon owner Steph said: “Introducing Xero software into our salon was without a doubt the best business decision we have ever made. It has freed up our time so we now have much more resource to spend ‘on the business’ in terms of business strategy and growth rather than admin – we no longer have the arduous task of having to think about our accounts each month as Xero takes this all off our hands with support from the RL team.”

Humphrey and Wilson gained financial support from The Gateshead Business Centre Enterprise fund, which has allowed the team to gain new premises and expand its product lines into top brands such as L’Oréal and Vita Liberata – one of the only beauty salons in the area that uses this product.

Head of Cloud Accounting at Robson Laidler Nick Wilson said: “It’s great to see the success that Steph and Mark have achieved in such a short space of time, which has been complimented by clever cloud accountancy software that has helped them be more productive in their day to day business, saving them both time, money and head space.”
