Pan-Asian restaurant set to open at Beverley’s Flemingate centre

A new pan-Asian restaurant is set to bring a wide range of oriental street food to Beverley’s Flemingate centre.

Sumo Pan Asian is set to open a new 760 sq ft restaurant in June, employing around eight staff.

The restaurant is the brand’s second venture following the Japanese food-to-go outlet Sumo in Newland Avenue, Hull.

Gary Chin, director and head chef of Sumo Pan Asian, said: “We wanted to bring an authentic Asian street food experience to Beverley, with a modern twist and using the best local ingredients.

“Our concept is designed on the traditional street food bars of Asia, where people sit around counters and the food is freshly cooked in front of them. We will offer that relaxed, informal and very sociable feel, but within a comfortable, quality restaurant environment.

“We’re really excited to be opening in Beverley and see Flemingate as the ideal location, as we believe our customers will be a mix of shoppers, workers and local residents.”

The new restaurant will offer a range of authentic dishes from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan, including Chicken Karaage; Crispy Duck Buns; Chicken Satay Skewers; Katsu Curry; Beef Thai Red Curry; Seafood Ramen and a variety of Bento Boxes.

There will also be a range of vegetarian and vegan options such as Korean Sticky Tofu; Vegetarian Gyoza; Truffle Spring Rolls; Sweet Potato Curry, and Vegetarian Udon Soup..

Graham Tait, centre manager at Flemingate, said: “Sumo Pan Asian is an excellent addition to Flemingate and brings yet another new eating option to the centre. In fact, it will be unique in Beverley in offering a pan Asian menu and the choice to eat in or take away.

“We’re delighted to welcome yet another investment to continue the growth and evolution of the centre as a retail and leisure destination.

“We’re also pleased to add another growing local business to our line-up of independent outlets. We feel we’ve got a really good balance of big national names and entrepreneurial local and regional brands.”

Owned and developed by Hull-based regeneration company Wykeland Group, the Flemingate development is Beverley’s largest-ever regeneration scheme and includes brands such as Debenhams and H&M as well as being home to the East Riding College campus, an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel and a six-screen digital cinema, Parkway.
