Darlington manufacturer hits production milestone during Q1 2018

Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd has achieved a production milestone with more than 2,000 tonnes of steel structures in the first two months of 2018.

The equivalent of nearly four fully-loaded Airbus A380 planes or 1,850 Ford Fiesta cars, the steel has been fabricated at the company’s extensive production facility in Darlington.

Delivered by Cleveland Bridge’s 300-strong workforce, the projects have included bridges for road and rail crossings across the UK in regions including the Midlands, Wales, Scotland, London and the South East.

Among the activity has been the start of a major bridge project for the upgrade of the A14 Cambridge to Huntington route, as well as other large infrastructure projects including the A6 Kegworth bypass.

Housed within its 22-acre site, Cleveland Bridge’s 27,000 sq metre production facility has the capacity to manage multiple projects at any one time.

Keith Shimmin, Cleveland Bridge UK’s head of operations, said: “The recent investments we have made - in our production capabilities, including processes, technology and people - have boosted our productivity and enabled the business to deliver an increased volume of projects.

“From our location in [the] North East, we are in close proximity to the UK motorway network and port facilities, which enables us to support projects around the UK, consistently meeting customer timescales with the delivery of high quality steel structures.”
