New contractor confirmed for Salford’s 100 Embankment following Carillion collapse
Building firm BAM Construction has been chosen to replace Carillion as the lead contractor on the 100 Embankment scheme in Salford.
Located in the city’s Greengate neighbourhood, the project is the final phase of the two-part Embankment development.
The building will comprise 166,000 sq ft of Grade A office space across nine storeys.
BAM’s appointment follows news of a forward funding agreement with Salford City Council for the delivery of phase two.
Building firm Carillion was originally lined up to deliver 100 Embankment. Following the company’s collapse earlier this year Ask Real Estate, one of the joint venture partners delivering the scheme, triggered its contingency plans and launched discussions with BAM.
100 Embankment is due for completion in early 2020.
BAM Construction’s director for the North West, Ian Fleming, said: “We are extremely pleased to be selected as construction partner to deliver 100 Embankment on this historic city centre site.
“Our deeply embedded collaborative culture and technological skills mean we are ideally suited to creating a building with a sustainability rating of BREEAM Excellent.”
He added: “It is equally important that we are able to add social value, working with local supply chains and assisting with life opportunities such as apprenticeships.”
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett commented: “The announcement that BAM is in place to drive forward the delivery of 100 Embankment means we can start to focus on securing an occupier which will deliver hundreds of additional jobs which is great news for the City of Salford.”
John Hughes, managing director of Ask Real Estate, said on behalf of the joint venture: “We are delighted to be working with BAM who have extensive experience and are well respected in the industry.
“The fact that they have been able to meet our complex requirements within such a short space of time is testament to their solid credentials.”
The joint venture behind Embankment comprises investment firm Tristan Capital Partners, developer Ask Real Estate and the Richardson Family.
Agents on the development are CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield.
