Blackburn business helps Britons with home security

More than half of the British population (52%) live in fear of neighbourhood crime, according to a study released by Budget Insurance last week.

The national study into experiences and perceptions of neighbourhood crime also revealed that just 55% of respondents claimed that keeping their property secure is of paramount importance, and only 38% could safely say that they take measures to keep their home secure.

Anna McEntee, Director of Budget Insurance, said: “We’re struck by the apparent contradiction between many people’s worries and concerns over rising crime and their casual approach to car and home security. It’s important to remember that there are simple steps we can all take, first to secure our homes and cars and second to make sure we put the appropriate insurance cover in place in case our fears ever come to pass.”

Amid the report, Blackburn-based manufacturers Rockdoor are also urging homeowners to carefully reconsider their home security.

Chris Hall, Group Marketing Manager at Rockdoor, said, “These statistics reveal a shocking reality, not just about the fear of crime but also the lack of caution many homeowners take to prevent break-ins.”

According to Rockdoor, nearly 70% of burglaries involve forced entry through the front or back door. Chris explains, “Doors are an obvious point of entry so it’s important to take into account more than aesthetics alone when buying a new door.”

“Contrary to popular belief, thieves prefer to unclip window panels in a door when breaking in. At Rockdoor, we use S-glaze technology in all of our doors which prevents thieves from removing them – it’s these little security measures introduced by manufacturers to look out for that really make a difference.”
