HOUSEBUILDER WELCOMES PLANNING APPROVAL AND COMMUNITY BOOST

A Bristol housebuilder has welcomed the decision by North Somerset Council to approve planning consent for a major new development in Weston-super-Mare, bringing extensive community benefits.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley began construction on the former Weston Airfield in 2013, and the recent announcement confirms its next phase of redevelopment.

Up to 1,650 homes are proposed to be built at Persimmon’s Haywood Village site with community contribution benefits to be seen in education, highway and transport improvements as well as health and leisure facilities.

Steve Roche, managing director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “This is the next stage of our major transformation of the former airfield.

“This is one of our major developments. It’s not just about building homes but creating an entire new community, which ultimately will have a positive impact on the local economy.

“Our first phase consisted of 900 homes with contributions to education which saw the construction of a primary school including a nursery and community facility. We are still successfully building at our Oakwood View development but this recent news confirms our ongoing commitment to Weston-super-Mare.”

As part of the recent planning consent, Persimmon is required to provide a further 630 place primary school including additional nursery facilities, a sports pavilion with pitches as well as play areas for residents.

“Our Agreement with North Somerset will also see highway infrastructure improvements in the surrounding area in addition to enhancing public transport and contributing to the existing secondary school and neighbouring health facilities,” added Steve.

“We are currently awaiting our first reserved matters consent for the development’s first 57 homes and are working towards starting construction in the summer.
