Eddisons £3,000 Three Peaks fundraising challenge gets underway

A ten-strong team from Leeds-based Eddisons’ Building and Project Consultancy division has embarked on a training programme for their Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge walk in aid of a children’s cancer charity on 11 May.

The team aims to raise £3,000 for Children with Cancer UK, which funds research, raises awareness and helps families affected by childhood cancer.

The 24-mile Three Peaks Challenge takes on the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough and includes a gruelling 5,200 ft of ascent. Kicking off training for the expedition last month, Eddisons director Ian Harrington, along with Joe Fitzsimmons, Jack Cooper, Scott Lambert and Callum Wason, tackled Whernside, which at 2,415 ft is the highest of the three hills.

Ian said: “Joe is the only one of us to have done the Three Peaks before and although we’re all reasonably fit this will be a physical challenge for us. Whernside on its own was pretty strenuous and to think we will have to do that sort of ascent and descent three times, hopefully in under 12 hours, is quite daunting.

“If we can reach our target of raising £3,000 - £1,000 for each peak – for Children with Cancer, then however many blisters and aching limbs we incur along the way, all our efforts will have been well worth it.”
