Ealing borough to receive over 300 new homes 'as soon as possible'

Today (April 6), Barratt London has intended to start work ‘immediately’ on the Western Circus, Acton scheme in the London Borough of Ealing.

However, this is subject to Sadiq Khan’s approval and signing the section 106 agreement. This follows the decision by Ealing Borough Council’s planning committee to unanimously recommend the application for approval on March 21.

Located on the Homebase site on the A40 (Western Avenue), the 0.95-hectare scheme provides 333 new homes, 114 of which are affordable, a new 2,000 sq m convenience supermarket, a communal garden, pocket park and a community space.

Designed by architects tp bennett, the new scheme comprises a four to six-storey residential building sitting along the edge of Western Avenue, together with three taller elements gradually increasing in height from eight to 16 storeys towards the junction with Old Oak Common Lane.

The design has a two-colour palette and fine detailing of brickwork which take their cues from the surrounding context, whilst the bold architectural expression, emphasising vertical lines and height, is designed to provide a strong visual marker and act as a gateway point to Ealing.

Matt Calladine, regional land and development director, Barratt London, said: “We are delighted with Ealing Borough Council’s resolution to grant planning permission for Western Circus in Acton, and are particularly pleased to be able to deliver 114 much needed affordable homes for the borough, which have been agreed with Ealing specifically to meet the needs of their residents.

“We know how important it is to build more homes for London as quickly as possible and are looking forward to progressing the development subject to Mayoral consent.”

Barratt London purchased the site last summer and has worked together with Ealing Borough Council, the GLA and local residents throughout the design process, shaping a scheme that will deliver a mixed and balanced community.

The scheme’s anticipated completion date is late 2021.
