Construction to start on 274-apartment scheme north of Manchester

Construction will soon start on a residential-led mixed-use scheme near Manchester city centre.

The development, located on Oldham Road, will comprise 274 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments along with 3,700 sq ft of ground-floor retail space.

The units will be housed across two buildings positioned around a landscaped courtyard.

Manchester-based Hodder + Partners is the architecture practice behind the designs.

The companies delivering the project are AIG Global Real Estate, part of insurer AIG, and international infrastructure investor Balfour Beatty Investments.

Balfour Beatty Investments acquired the site in January 2016, with the land ownership later transfering in full to AIG under the terms of the deal.

How the courtyard space will look

Project architect Alberto Lavela, of Hodder + Partners, said: “This is a very exciting project for Hodder and Partners.

“The accommodation is split between two opposing blocks separated by a landscaped courtyard, stepping from 5 storeys above ground level to nine storeys above ground level.”

He continued: “A single storey pavilion within the courtyard houses a concierge and residents’ gym with onsite car parking situated in the single storey ‘half in half out’ basement which sits 1500mm below ground level.”

Commercial property services firm Colliers International advised Balfour Beatty.
