Darlington council approves new residential housing scheme for Hurworth
Plans for a new residential development on land to the North of Hurworth are set to move forward after Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee gave its approval.
Regional employer, Banks Property - part of the Banks Group - put forward plans last year for the Hurworth North development, which encompasses 95 new family homes on a 5.6 hectare site.
The County Durham-headquartered firm subsequently carried out a series of community consultation events around the details of the scheme and the long-term economic, environmental and social benefits it would bring to the local area.
A planning application was submitted in December 2017 and received a recommendation for approval from Darlington Borough Council’s planning officers.
Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at The Banks Group, said: “We’re pleased that the members of Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee have seen fit to follow the council officers’ recommendation to support our Hurworth North proposals.
“This is a carefully developed scheme located in an area where we know there is demand for homes from people who want to stay or move here, and has been designed to bring economic, employment, environmental, social and supply chain benefits to the area.
“There is a clear and increasingly pressing need right across North East England to increase the available supply of quality homes, a need which our Hurworth North scheme will help to address, and we will now look to move it forward as quickly as we can.”
