Manchester Airport passenger levels near two million in March
Manchester Airport served almost two million passengers last month.
A total of 1,988,233 people used the airport’s three terminals in March, a year-on-year uptick of 4%.
The figure brought Manchester Airport’s rolling annual total to 27,882,845 passengers, which is 6.4% more than the same period in 2016/17.
A number of new routes will take off from Manchester this year, including Jet2.com’s flights to Lanzarote and Primera Airlines’ service to Malaga for Winter 2018. Jet2.com will operate its busy Summer 2018 schedule with an additional Airbus A330.
Construction efforts on the airport’s £1bn transformation programme continued apace, with a sixth tower crane installed in March to help builders deliver a multi-storey car park. Elsewhere, cladding and glazing on the pier and terminal link are going up fast.
Manchester Airport CEO Andrew Cowan said: “It’s been another busy month for Manchester Airport with the start of the Easter getaway.
“We’re looking forward to our busiest ever summer with plenty of exciting route launches like Seattle with Thomas Cook Airlines and Cagliari, Palermo and Ponte Delgado with Ryanair.”
Cargo, meanwhile, hit 9,443 tonnes in March, taking the annual tonnage to 122,733 tonnes.
