Plastics firm buys its current Dudley premises to mark milestone anniversary

A painted plastic mouldings supplier for the automotive industry has marked the 25th anniversary at its Dudley site by purchasing its premises, with support from Yorkshire Bank.

Launched in 1990, Interplas Coatings is a prominent paint spraying company and also offers sub-assembly applications, specialising in water and solvent based wet paint spraying on plastic and metal interior parts, as well as exterior components.

The company is owned by Narinder, Avtar Mahi, Jitender and Reena Mahi. For the last 15 years, the business has focused solely on wet paint applications to meet the OEM’s specifications.

The team has been keen to upgrade the premises, install technology and create an overall better working environment. Yorkshire Bank has developed a £600k funding package to allow them to buy the building and beginning the renovation works.

Narinder Mahi, one of the owners of Interplas Coatings, said: “We have leased our building in Dudley for 25 years and it has been an excellent location for us.

“However, as the business and the industry move forward, we need to adapt the site to ensure we are working efficiently and our staff have access to fit-for-purpose facilities.

“With the help of Yorkshire Bank, we have been able to purchase the premises and we have launched a six-month programme to upgrade the building.”

The work will include reconfiguring part of the layout of the building, installing new state-of-the-art machinery, decorating the office space, improving staff areas and upgrading the exterior of the site to give a modern look. The work will be done in phases to ensure business as usual.

Narinder added: “We want to create a better working environment for our staff and it’s our 25th year in Dudley so it’s a great time to be making these changes.

“Owning our own premises has a number of benefits, but ultimately, we have more stability and security for our business and for our people.”
