Park responds to ‘DIY SOS Spennymoor’ to aid family devastated by house fire
Community conscious Park Electrical Distributors and Concept 16, are two of a number of companies to come to the aid of a Spennymoor family whose house was gutted by a fire.
Upon hearing of the devastating blaze, David Goss, managing director of building and heating company, Concept 16, devoted his time to help the Poskett family restore their home by encouraging the local business community to donate time and or, money, to the cause.
As near neighbours to Concept 16 in Durhamgate, Spennymoor, Park donated a range of electrical items to support the project, known locally as ‘DIY SOS Spennymoor’.
David Goss, said: “I heard about the house fire and wanted to offer my services. Naively, I thought it was just the bathroom area which had been affected and contacted the family to supply and fit it out.
“They were overwhelmed by the gesture but when I visited the property I found the house was not insured and it had been totally gutted by the fire.
“Having sat down with Tracey Poskett, I decided I wanted to help further. This could not have come at a worse time for Tracey, who was in hospital discussing her cancer treatment at the time of the fire. I set up a Facebook page called ‘DIY SOS Spennymoor’ and I was stunned at the positive response from the local business community.
“It has been great to get to know the team at the Park branch and my call to action has resulted in businesses creating a nice bond. We are just three units down from Park and it has resulted in us collaborating on a project together.
“We have rebuilt the external kitchen wall and stripped the remaining internal walls. We will be looking to progress to the next stage of windows and lighting and my aim is to restore the house by raising £30,000.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has got behind the campaign.”
Mark Barrigan, regional business development manager, for Park’s Durham branch, said: “We found out about the project via business account manager, Dan Dunnett, at Eaton (MEM) who asked if we could help. We were only too pleased to offer our services and get involved.
“David Goss is a true inspiration and it is a pleasure to work alongside him and his team. We supplied the cabling, back boxes, clips and fixings for wiring the first fix and Eaton (MEM) is supplying the second fix items which include a distribution board and sockets. Kevin Osborne, electrician at OJ Electrics, will carry out the full rewire at his own cost.
“DIY SOS Spennymoor’ is an example of true kindness and we wish the Posketts the best of luck for the future as they rebuild their lives.”
Tracey Poskett, said: “I was overwhelmed by the generosity of David Goss who I just could not believe wanted to help us. I was slightly cautious when I first heard about his offer to help renovate the house. However, when we met up I was instantly put at ease and can only thank him and everyone involved in helping to restore our home, including the team from Park Electrical Distributors.”
Park Electrical Distributors is the North East’s largest independent electrical wholesaler with turnover just above £20 million. Established in 1990, it has branches in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and Teesside. In addition to its role as a wholesaler, the company has specialist divisions - lighting design, energy solution, building technologies and industrial services - that deliver bespoke solutions to generate significant long term energy savings. Environmental stewardship is high on the company’s priority and this is achieved by focussing on light emitting diode (LED) technology that significantly reduces the carbon footprint. ENDS
