Businesses in South set for Internet speed boost

Businesses across the South could get ‘hyperfast’ broadband installed for free as local company Vostron has been appointed by the Government to help firms access faster speeds.

Vostron has been selected to help businesses get access to the hyperfast connections through its new Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

The initiative gives businesses up to £3,000 off installing Gigabit broadband, which is faster than ‘superfast broadband’ and Vostron has been named as a registered supplier for the scheme. The company, which has been helping companies get better connected for more than a decade, says that in the majority of cases it makes the installation completely free.

Managing director Sam Strover says: “Having a secure, reliable and fast Internet connection is more important than ever. We all know that a slow connection has a real impact on productivity and that impacts businesses of all types.

“The Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is a very positive move in the right direction, giving businesses the opportunity to install the very fastest broadband available. We’re thrilled to be able to help local businesses access the scheme and save themselves some money at the same time.”

Research by Daisy Group shows slow internet connections are having a big impact on business productivity. The study found workers lose 38 hours every year due to slow internet access and the problem is costing the UK economy £11bn a year in lost productivity.

Sam added: “The South’s business community is full of innovative and thriving businesses but it seems some are being held back from their full potential by slow speeds.”

Gigabit broadband is even faster than ‘superfast broadband’, with upload and download speeds around four times faster than traditional connections. It’s also more reliable, secure and has bigger capacity due to the fact it uses full fibre rather than copper.

Companies across the South can get in touch with Vostron on 023 80 111 111 to take advantage of the vouchers scheme. Vostron takes care of the grant application on their behalf.

• The Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme was first announced in March after it set aside £67 million to help support the rollout of fibre-to-the-home broadband, on top of the existing £95 million commitment outlined in the Spring Statement.
