Northumberland pet store launches new salon encouraging all-natural grooming products

North East pet store, My Pet HQ is expanding its offering from pet products, workshops and events, to now include a pet grooming salon after one year of trading.

Following growing demand from its customer base, the Northumberland pet store will offer a professional salon with a range of traditional and chemical-free grooming treatments.

The move to include more natural products - which allows My Pet HQ to champion products which are much kinder to animals’ skin - comes as consumers continue to shift away from chemical heavy cosmetics to more organic beauty and wellbeing products.

According to the Soil Association’s 2018 Organic Beauty and Wellbeing Report 2017, the current UK market was valued at £75.9m, up by 24 per cent in 2016, and is only set to rise.

My Pet HQ are continuing to put animal wellbeing at the forefront of their business by encouraging customers to opt for natural products over traditional grooming products which can be rife with chemicals.

Caroline Coppen, a founder of My Pet HQ, said: “As a nation, we’re becoming more concerned with our health, both what we put into our bodies and the products we use on them, so it seems only natural that this would apply to what we use on our pets too.

“We want to educate customers and encourage them to make better choices for their animal.”

Featuring alongside traditional grooming products, the natural grooming line, supplied by Herbal Dog Co, offers customers a range of treatments designed to be kind to the animal’s skin and is free from harsh chemicals often found in cheaper grooming products.

Dr Isla Fishburn, animal wellness practioner of Kachina Canine, added: “Canine health not only includes what we put in to a dog but also onto the dog, including skin products.

“Skin is the largest metabolic organ in the body and anything that is put on to the skin, enters the blood stream and has an effect on the body.

“It is vital that we pay attention to the ingredients in products that we use on our dogs and that the products used contain no synthetic chemicals, alcohols, are non-toxic, pH neutral, are non-irritant and do not harm healthy tissues and cells.”
