The Gym Group opens 20,000 sq ft site at The Toast Rack in Manchester
The Gym Group plc has signed for a 15-year lease at Generation Ltd’s Toast Rack scheme in Fallowfield, Manchester.
The gym occupies 20,000 sq ft of refurbished space on all four floors of the central ‘drum’ building overlooked by the Toast Rack and originally occupied by the Hollings Library.
With capacity for up to 5,000 members, the new gym is the brand’s fourth largest in the UK.
The gym provides no-contract memberships with 24/7 access to facilities and equipment from £13.99 per month.
Shehzad Chaudhri, co-founder of Generation Ltd, said: “The Gym Group is the first phase of The Toast Rack development and forms part of a fully integrated community ‘build to rent’ development which is complemented by The Gym Group’s commitment.
“The Toast Rack will be a unique proposition in this area of south Manchester which has a vibrant community and we anticipate demand being high for the residential apartments.
“The development will have the facilities and amenities one would normally associate with exceptional city centre developments but within a four acre setting of landscaped gardens in a very popular and well connected suburban location.”
Adam Robson, director at AKM Property, who acted on behalf of The Gym Group signing up to The Toast Rack, added: “The Gym Group is very much looking forward to opening its doors to the public this spring.
“The Toast Rack is a landmark building within Manchester and The Gym Group is pleased to have secured a unique unit in the former library which occupies a prominent position within Fallowfield and catering for the needs of a diverse demographic of users within the local area.”
Zerum Group is Generation’s project manager and Ollier Smurthwaite and SixTwo are jointly appointed architects on the Toast Rack scheme.
