Let’s get building! Local housebuilder inspires local Scouts with behind the scenes visit to new development

Local children from 4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group have been among the first to visit Barratt Homes’ new Weavers Chase development in Golcar, to get a firsthand look at the housebuilding process.

In total, 15 children, aged 10 – 14 years old, visited the site with two of their Group leaders to find out more about how new homes are built, and to watch tasks such as bricklaying in action.

The Scouts were given a tour by David Hunter, Site Manager at Weavers Chase, for an action-packed morning of learning about the inner workings of how new developments are created and the intricate process of building someone’s future home, as well as getting to handle some of the materials used themselves.

Craig Ellis, Group Scout Leader at 4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group, said: “We were delighted to be invited to Weavers Chase for our Scouts to have a behind the scenes tour of the new development. We’re always looking for a wide range of interesting and different activities to do with the Scouts.

The Scouts found it interesting to learn about the fact that the development will use stone to reflect the local architecture. It was an educational trip, where the Scouts picked up some useful tips, which will help them to develop life skills for the future. We’re grateful to the Barratt Homes team for spending some time with us.“

David Hunter, Site Manager at Weavers Chase, commented: “We’re always keen to work closely with the communities we build in. Inspiring children about housebuilding and what goes into creating a new home with visits to our sites is an acitivty we really enjoy. It was a pleasure to have the local Scouts group visit us at Weavers Chase; when the development is complete, the children will have been able to see both the early stages and the finished homes; maybe they will be inspired to become housebuilders themselves!”
