Durham car insurance startup hunts for regional talent

Digital Union member and Durham tech startup, honcho has confirmed it will look to recruit up to 15 new members of staff in the next year as the company prepares for the official launch of its app.

honcho, which recently relocated to Durham, has since employed a full-time CTO having secured £830k of investment from a CrowdCube campaign in January.

Commercial director, Frank Speight, said in order to successfully unveil its technology across the country, honcho is now hiring, requiring a product development and distribution specialist, along with a digital marketing expert with immediate effect.

honcho, a marketplace for car insurance, is set to officially launch later this year and Frank Speight believes the first phase of its recruitment drive represents a major milestone moment for the rapidly evolving tech outfit.

Since January 2018, honcho has been working on raising its profile alongside the creative digital networking organisation Digital Union as well overseeing the next phase of the development of its technology with the Newcastle based app developers, Hedgehog Lab.

Frank Speight said: “As a result of the PR exposure that came from the capital raising exercise, we were contacted by a number of insurers and brokers that we had yet to approach, all of whom we have now engaged with, who are keen to partner with honcho.

“We are working with Hedgehog Lab to develop the next iteration of the honcho app, and work is progressing at an intense pace to develop the original prototype by adding new features that will make the customer journey and user experience even more exciting.

“The North East is one of the most vibrant regions in the country in terms of knowledge and expertise in the tech industry… This is a great time to join the company. Because we are a startup there are no bureaucratic systems or processes in place.”
