Two Apprentices Make The Full Time Grade

One of the region’s leading training companies has rewarded the efforts of two apprentices by offering them full time employment.

JB Skills Training has been responsible for over 1000 successful apprenticeships in the last four years and now they are delighted to have successful learners Eve Welburn and Sophie Gray as permanent members of the team.

20 year old Sophie Gray has studied for and successfully passed her Level 3 IT Pro whilst at JB Skills for the last year, and she has now been appointed as digital marketing assistant.

Sophie has built upon the education she got through her course in Business & Entrepreneurship (Peter Jones Enterprise Academy) within East Durham College. She also had previous work experience from time at an independent Estate Agency in Hartlepool setting up and maintaining advertising and social media. She also worked within a County Durham Housing Group to assist the Events and HR teams with day-to-day duties before joining JB Skills with the aim of improving her chances of a full time role in digital marketing.

Sophie, who is from Seaham, said:

“I love my current job role. Digital Marketing is so broad and so rewarding. I get the opportunity to be creative and learn something new every day, broadening my knowledge more and more over time. Eventually I hope to bring in an apprentice or two so I can pass down the knowledge I have gained.

“I am keen to get involved in the new apprenticeship standards within the tech industry and to assist our trainers with the delivery of the new Digital Marketing standard. JB Skills have really invested in me and put a lot of faith in me to create a new and improved website. I work with a lot of knowledgeable and fantastic people so I only hope I can continue to the next step in my career with JB Skills and carry on learning and growing as an individual.”

Nineteen-year-old Eve Welburn works in the operations department for JB Skills Training and she is just in her final stages of her level Three Business Administration. Although she has only been part of the team for the last year, she has made an impact very quickly. Her line manager, operations manager Karin Dowson, said:

“Eve puts in practice on a daily basis what she is learning, she is always ahead of her targets and she will be finished before her target dates.

“She is a joy to have around and is a great support to both myself and the assessors.”

Eve, who is from Sunderland, said:

“I love my job and the training. JB Skills is an amazing place to work and I am enjoying becoming part of the team. I am delighted to now have a permanent full time role and will be working hard to move up the ladder, maybe undertaking more studying.”
