Work to commence on transforming Marylebone car park into new residential scheme
Property developer Concord London has unveiled plans for a new residential scheme in Marylebone, central London, after acquiring the Moxon Street Car Park site.
The site, now named Marylebone Square, is the last whole city block in London’s W1 postcode yet to be developed.
Granted in 2015, planning permission for the scheme will include 79 residential homes and 11 retail units.
Marylebone High Street, recently voted the ‘best street in London’ by BBC Radio 4 listeners, will be enhanced by the extension that this new square will provide.
Christopher Murray, managing director of Concord London, said: “Marylebone will be able to realise its full potential now that one of the finest opportunity sites in London has been given the green light to get started.
“Our subtle yet stunning development will be a turning point for this area, as it continues to become one of the most sought after locations to live and play not only in London but all of Europe”
Terry Hui, president and CEO of Concord Pacific, commented: “As a developer that is embedded in the W1 area, Marylebone Square will be created by those who live and work in Marylebone, with a vision to protect and enhance the neighbourhood’s past, present and future.
“This acquisition represents our long-term commitment to Marylebone and Prime Central London as a whole - and our partnership will continue to actively seek future acquisitions in the London area.”
Westminster City Council praised news of the completion, commenting: “Marylebone is a hidden gem in central London, with its traditional high street and close-knit community allowing for a distinctive neighbourhood in the middle of Marylebone. Marylebone Square will be a wonderful contribution to this unique area.”
The Farmer’s Market will continue to call the square home, in a new community hall built for locals with affordable rates.
The car park that currently occupies the site will not be lost either, as all spaces will be re-provided underneath the new building.
