N-ICE SPONSORSHIP DEAL FOR PARA SPORTS TEAM

An ice hockey club for both able bodied and disabled players has scored funds to sponsor two home games this season. Peterborough Phantoms Para Ice Hockey Club has been handed £1,000 by Persimmon Homes East Midlands’ Community Champions scheme and will support two games in the new season, beginning in May. The Phantoms, which is also a mixed team of male and female players, is one of only five clubs of its type in the country. Naomi Adie, from the Phantoms, said: “We are funded by player donations and local companies, so it is great to have had the support of Persimmon East Midlands. It will get us the ice time and officials for the matches. “As a club we act as a support to the disabled person and their family, and give a place to participate in an active lifestyle that will assist with rehabilitation of both their physical health and mental wellbeing. “We work closely with Inspire Peterborough to encourage disabled children and to show them they can participate in sport no matter what their situation, and we are looking to attract more players this year as part of social prescribing.” Nova Eames, head of sales for Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said: “As a company we are committed to supporting the groups and charities that make a real difference to the lives of local people in the areas in which we build. “The Phantoms are promoting health and wellbeing across the community. It is a pleasure to be able to support the squad by sponsoring the games. “Our Community Champions fund allows us to donate up to £1,000 each to two good causes every month. “Persimmon Homes East Midlands has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month. “If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion. There is no limit to the number of applications that can be made.” Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity To find out more about Peterborough Phantoms visit www.phantomsparaicehockey.co.uk
